This is a traditional Tatar dish which is cooked for special events or holidays.
For 8 servings you will need:
• 1 ½ cup warm water
• 3 1/2 – 4 cups of bread flour
• 1 package yeast
• 1 tablespoon sugar
• ½ tablespoon Himalayan pink salt
• 1 pound lean ground beef
• 1 red onion shopped
• ½ cup of warm water
• 1 teaspoon Himalayan pink salt
In large bowl combine warm water sugar and yeast and let it rest for about 6-7 minutes until the dough rises. Add about 3 ½ cup of flour and knead until you get a smooth texture. Cover with plastic wrap and let it rest until doubled in size.
Meanwhile prepare a filling. Combine ground beef, red onion, salt and water mix all ingredients well.
When the dough is raised put it on the counter top and sprinkle with the flour, cut dough into 12 to 15 pieces. Roll each piece in a 5 inch in diameter and ½ inch thick rounds.
Put filling in the middle and bring the ends of the dough to the center with the hole in the middle.
Let your made Belyashies to rest for another 10-15 minutes until they double in size.
Meanwhile preheat the skillet to medium temperature and fill it with frying oil. Place raised Belyashes into the skillet with the hole down.
Cook on each side for about 4-5 minutes; check if it cooked through with a wooden stick.
Repeat with all of the Belyashies.
Serve with sour cream or your favorite sauce.
