Zesty Cranberry Sauce
I always believed that making homemade Cranberry Sauce would take a lot of time and efforts. Every Thanksgiving and Christmas we used only canned whole berries sauce which is very good until we found out that most of these sauces are packed with many preservatives and high fructose corn syrup which we did not fully understand the harm that this ingredient brings to your body. I was looking for the good home made recipe which will satisfy my family tastes. After trying many different cranberry sauces I came up with my own which is reasonably sweet and has some sour tinge from Orange and Cranberry and also has a zest from Clove and Cinnamon.
For about 8-10 servings you will need:
- 2 cups of fresh cranberries
- 1 Granny Smith apple
- 1 cup of brown sugar packed
- 1/2 teaspoon of salt
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon ground clove
- 1 1/2 cup of water
- 1 cup of any white wine, I used Sherry
- juice and zest from one orange
Clean, core and remove the skin from the apple and chop it into small bite size pieces.
In large sauce pan bring together apple, cranberries, sugar, cinnamon, clove, salt, water, wine, orange juice and orange zest.
Set up the heat to medium high and bring it into boil. Then turn heat to simmer and cook for 10-15 minutes, you will hear the Cranberry start popping which is normal.
Sauce is done when it will be thick in consistency. Serve your sauce warm with turkey or any other your favorite poultry meal.
