Spider Web Honey Cake
This cake is one of my favorites that I like to bake for almost all of our families special occasions. It has a slight honey taste like the more traditional Russian honey cake but it does not take that much time to prepare as it would take for the more traditional cake which you will find here. I decided to make this Spider Web Honey cake for my daughter’s Halloween party.
This cake will serve 10-12 people.
- 4 eggs
- 1 1/2 cup of flour
- 1 cup of sugar
- 1/2 cup of honey
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- pinch of salt
- 3/4 cup sour cream
- 8 oz. heavy whipping cream
- 1/2 cup sugar
- orange icing for the base
- black icing for the web and spiders
Preheat oven to 350F. In large mixing bowl beat 4 eggs with the hand mixer on high until they will become lighter in color.
Add sugar 1/4 at a time and continue to mix until it starts building hard foam.
Then add honey and beat for another 2-3 minutes.
Add salt and baking soda and mix it well until it dissolves. Start slow adding flour, do not use mixer, try gently fold flour into the batter.
When flour will be evenly distributed divide it into two 8″ round greased baking dishes and bake for 20-25 minutes.
Prepare icing. Mix sour cream, whipping cream and sugar and beat it on high for about6-8 minutes or until they will become thicker.
Slice each baked part of the cake into 2-3 layers
and apply your icing on each of these layer except the top one.
Apply orange icing on top of the last layer
and using black icing make spider web and spiders.
Let your cake stay refrigerated for a few hours before serving.
