This bread a great comfort food for those who like pizza and want to try something different than the traditional way to make it. I found the image of this bread on Pinterest and thought that it could be a very interesting alternative to regular pizza’s. My family found this bread very interesting and delicious as well and when it is still cooking in the oven you would hardly notice that it is not a pizza cooking. My family also liked to dip the pieces of pizza into warm marinara sauce. This will also go very well with Mozzarella Turkey meatballs or any other pasta dish.
This recipe is defiantly a keeper and I believe that you and your family and friends will love it as well!
For one pizza bread loaf you will need:
• 1 1/2 cup lukewarm water
• 1 tablespoon dry active yeast
• 1 teaspoon salt
• 1 cup whole wheat flour
• 2 -2 1/2 cups all purpose flour
• 1/4 cup olive oil
• handful black olives sliced
• 1/4 cup chopped ham
• 1/2 cup mozzarella cheese
• 1 tablespoon fresh or dry basil
• 1/4 cup chopped and cleaned from seeds tomatoes(optional)
• Marinara sauce or pizza sauce for dipping
Turn your mixer on low and gradually start adding mixed whole wheat and all purpose flour. Mix it for few minutes until it is all combined and turn up the speed to medium high. Mix your dough until it will shaped into the ball. Then transfer it into working space and adding olive oil continue to kneed it by hands until it will stop stick to your hands.
Shape ball out of the dough and place it into greased bowl to rise. When it is doubled in size, it is ready to add your fillings.
Roll the dough with rolling pin and place your fillings in the middle and then fold filling inside, repeat it few times until all filling is inside of the dough.
Shape bread loaf out of the dough and let it rest on baking sheet covered with parchment paper until it increases in size.
Bake pizza bread at 400F oven for 35-40 minutes. Check if it ready with wooden stick, if it comes out clean than the bread is ready.
Bring your bread to a cooling rack and let it cool covered with kitchen towel for 10 minutes. Then slice it and serve with marinara sauce or Mozzarella Turkey Meatballs. Enjoy!
